Fifa 14: Player Rating Confusion

Are the FUT Ultimate Team player ratings really all that accurate?

ramsey

When the player ratings for EA’s Fifa 14 were made available to the community today, there was much confusion and even anger at some player’s ratings. People complained of team bias and poor judgement when deciding player stats, and with good reason. If you haven’t seen them yet, check out the Fifa 14 player ratings on Futhead and UltimateDB.

This post was inspired by the comments over on Reddit and /r/FIFA/ go and check out the page for some serious Fifa conversation.

Average Arsenal?

It happens every year, but this year especially Arsenal FC have been given the most shocking player ratings. There seems to be no logic behind the decrease of player’s stats, and some have even questioned whether EA saw any Arsenal matches last season.

Aaron Ramsey: Rated 77

Aaron Ramsey has been in the best form of his life the past half year, and won ‘Player of the Month’ twice, yet hasn’t been increased by a single level. I would argue that he should be rated 80-82 this season, after all Abou Diaby is now a 77 (+1 from 76) and only played 5 matches last year – what kind of sense is that?!

Koscielny

Koscielny is rated 81 this year, despite being arguably on of the top defenders in the Premier League. This puts him at the same rating as Joleon Lescott. I mean, Lescott, come on, there’s really no competition between the two.

Cazorla vs David Silva

silva vs cazorla

Cazorla (85 rated) was Arsenal’s best player by far last season with 12 goals and 11 assists in 37 games. David Silva has a mediocre season with 4 goals and 8 assists in 29 games. You would expect Silva to therefore have a lower rating than Cazorla, right, right??? Wrong! Silva is rated a massive 88 making him the 10th best player in the game. Is this justified? No. Is is even remotely reasonable? No, it’s not. Someone needs to have a whisper in the ear of whoever came up with these ratings and help them see sense because I really cannot get my head around them.

Premier League Stars:

Christian Benteke

Benteke had the season of his life last year netting 19 goals in 32 games whilst leaving defenders in pieces. I would rate Benteke in the mid 80s, perhaps 83-84, after all he had a great season claiming 4th top goal scorer spot. So why has he been rated 79? Who here thinks that he is on par with Gervinho (also 79)? It seems ridiculous.

Juan Mata

Is Mata (84) the biggest underrating in Fifa 14? Futhead’s comment section is going ballistic at this player’s attributes. He scored 20 goals yet is rated with 79 shooting, helped 35 assists but has only 83 passing? Mata’s shooting and passing should be in the high 80s, possibly even low 90s – I don’t think anyone can understand EA’s decision on this one.

Sergio Aguero

Sergio got an upgrade of +1 this year. Well done to him. My problem is that he was injury plagued the whole season and only scored 12 goals in 30 games. That’s very poor for a player like him, possibly worthy of a downgrade. But when you see that Cavani, who scored 29 in 34 games didn’t even get a +1 ugrade, you can see that it is utterly ridiculous! How can Cavani possibly get an upgrade, scoring almost every match and being in top shape not enough? Well seemingly it is for Aguero. What is going on?

There are many more prem stars we are confused about, but let us sidestep to the international arena and scrutinize the likes of Ronaldo and Neymar – EA really love to annoy us!

International Players

Ronaldo’s weak foot:

Would anyone that has seen Ronaldo play not give him the highest possible weak foot rating? Apparently Ronaldo only has a 4 star left peg, apparently. Have EA HQ not seen the screamers he hits from outside the area, the curved through balls? To top it all off, Pedro, of all players, has been given a 5* weak foot, seriously, what are EA smoking? I found this Youtube video which I feel sums up my frustration quite clearly, give is a watch:

Stephan Lichtsteiner

Rated 78, Stephan received a -4 downgrade, now you’d expect him to have hada shocking season, right? WRONG. He was great, even getting awarded a Team Of The Season card. How can this possibly warrant a downgrade, if anything, we’d expect a +1 or +2 upgrade, why were we so wrong?

Gary Medel

Gary Medel got blasted by EA this year – he was downgraded -5, and for what, moving to a small EPL club? He had a fantastic season last year; with an in form card and scored 6 goals while proving himself as a defensive midfielder by winning 78% of duels on the ball. Granted his current card is awesome for a silver, but we still believe that an injustice has been done and question EA’s motives for it.

-Thanks to /u/youngun27 for the spot.

Neymar

neymar stats

136 goals, 65 assists in 5 years, pretty awesome right? Well Neymar (rated 84) doesn’t even make it in to the top 50 players in FUT. In fact he is placed at #74th Overall. Someone please explain. Neymar is now rated below Modrić, Muller, and Pedro. You go figure that out.

Conclusion:

EA have screwed up pretty bad this year, from single stats to entire teams. This will continue my tradition of seeing how poorly Arsenal have been rated each year, something that has no benefits but matching me up with 4.5 star teams in Head to Head. I really do not know what to say about the rest, let’s just hope against hope that these are not the final figures, or at least EA will see the fans’ outrage and decide to change something.

EA got so much wrong this year it isn’t even funny. I almost didn’t preorder the game in favor of Call of Duty which is in an even worse state of disregard of actuality.

Chelsea and Arsenal seem to have bad ratings year in and year out. There’s not much we can do about it but hope that they realise their errors before the full game is released!

:D some of this is awful, Ronaldo 4 star rating for left foot is fine. Only players like Cazorla and Nedved back in the day should get 5 start weak foot rating, naturally two footed players.

Basically, it seems as if EA has a ridiculous bias towards the real/barca players, and a disregard for everyone else. its stupid really, cuz eventually, FUT becomes littered with little dbags with real-barca TOTY superteams while everyone else is left to try and compete with that crap… i mean, do u wanna guess who’s going to be on the Best of the Best TOTY now?? lets see… messi, ronaldo, xavi, xavi alonso, castillas?, sergio ramos, fabergas… yep… REAL f-ing BARCA…

hello i dont play fifa but maybe i could try to explain what i think about some of that strange ratings:
koscielny make many big mistakes that cost a lot to his club
silva is better than cazorla and also did better season than him, its not all about the numbers and del bosque thinks the same (starter vs benched player rarely plays)
mata also not that great, del bosque and of course mourinho agrees
aguero had a bad season but hes great and hes proving this first month of competition
ronaldo weak foot 4 its not that bad nevertheless pedro is considered one of the few players in the world who is ambidextrous
neymar has to adapt to european football and could take some time

maybe fifa also works by predictions ;)
